So They Don't  Hold You Back Any More


Expectancy Set Points: what are THOSE?! 

The simplest metaphor is the thermostat that regulates the temperature in a room and keeps it within a certain range. Our 'expectancy set points' operate in a similar way by regulating our thoughts, beliefs, emotions, and behaviors, and keeping them within a range that we're comfortable- familiar- with.

A significant amount of research has been conducted on expectancy set points. They apply to our ability to be successful in many areas- socially, financially, in relationships, and in our careers. 

When our experiences match our 'expectancy set point', we feel that sense of comfort and familiarity. However, when they experience new results, different outcomes, that fall outside of our set point, we might feel discouraged, or anxious... overwhelmed. This 'cognitive dissonance' prompts us to behave in ways- or make decisions- that bring our experience back in line with our set point, even if this means staying in- or recreating- a situation that is not ideal.

As an example: let's say you currently earn $40,000, $75,000, $100,000, or even $500,000 a year. Your brain’s “software” will do everything in its power to make sure you don’t make one penny more – no matter how smart you are or how hard you hustle. This part of your brain will even force you to sabotage your success when you’re doing well just to keep you at this set point. 

Like the lottery winners who end up bankrupt after a few years...unless we consciously choose to learn how to create new set points, our unconscious habits will bring us right back to where we started. 

And that's why 'Wired to Win' was born!
